Workshop Sessions are available virtually or in person with compliance to the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reduce spread of COVID-19.
Session 1. Mental Fitness 101: Redefining Normal is a knowledge-based session designed for participants to gain a basic understanding of their emotions and how their personal experiences shape their thoughts and behavior. It serves as an introduction to the Building Blocks of Mental Fitness and demonstrates simple ways to cope with negative thoughts and emotions.
Session 2. Mindsets in Motion is an activities-based session where participants learn best practices to incorporate the various mindsets introduced in Session 1 along with other Mental Fitness tools into their daily activities and routine.
Session 3. Trauma in Teens is led by a panel of Mental Health experts and includes a Q&A discussion that addresses negative experiences such as childhood trauma, stress, bullying, peer pressure and social media influence. Teens learn healthy ways to cope with the common issues faced during these critical years.
Session 4. Risky Behaviors consists of five breakout sessions that focus on common struggles among teens that often lead to risky behavior. Each session is led by a Certified Trauma Informed Trainer who addresses specific areas of concern, provides effective ways to build trusting relationships, and promotes safety, empowerment, and healing. Participants may choose to attend any of the following breakout sessions: Cyber Addiction, Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Substance Use and Defiant Behavior.
Session 5. Summit in Session introduces the five core concentration areas of SUMMIT, an interest-based initiative offered by Mental Fitness that focuses on self-determination and effective ways for participants to discover his or her own interests, to pursue activities they enjoy and to discover the positive impact these personal interests and hobbies have on their mental health. Participants may choose to attend any the following breakout sessions: Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Theatre or Music), Sports & Outdoors, and the Culinary Arts.
Session 6. From Teen to Adult teaches basic readiness skills to become mentally and emotionally prepared for independent living. Participants learn how to express thoughts and feelings in a healthy way and are introduced to activities that build interpersonal relationships and communication skills to confidently attend interviews, to perform a job, to actively participate as a team member, and to appropriately address conflict.
